5. Drug-coated balloons

Drug-coated balloon angioplasty of side branch during provisional stenting

DCB-BIF
Objective
to investigate whether drug-coated balloon angioplasty (DCB) as compared to noncompliant ballon angioplasty (NCB) improves 1-year clinical outcomes
Study
multicentre randomised trial
Population
patients with true coronary bifurcations
Endpoints
MACE as cardiac death, MI, clinically-driven target lesion revascularisation at 1 year
Conclusion
the use of drug-coated balloon angioplasty resulted in a lower 1-year MACE rate compared to the use of non-compliant ballon angioplasty for the treatment of compromised side branch during provisional stenting of bifurcation lesions
